The Aachener Performance Night has the same qualities as a blind speed date - it is full of surprising and exciting, perhaps even sensual encounters with strange yet somehow familiar people of the same plumage. It is theatre animals and hunters with night vision goggles searching for their prey. It is Teletubbies meet fascists meet Gabber ravers meet scientists meet yuppies meet sleepers meet audiences. You will be able to catch your breath between performances, exchange experiences and generate energy for the next trip. Finish the evening at the after party, cool down and wait for the real nightlife to begin. Set your senses to 'sharp'.
Toneelacademie Maastricht is ahead of the curve when it comes to developing performance theatre. Eleven years ago they started Europe's first theatre education programme to create masterful theatrical performers. This kind of performance theatre is unique to Theater Aachen. Several famous actors and musicians were asked to participate with special performances. Theater K uses its work to counter traditional forms of theatre. Instead, it uses theatre as a mirror and as a critique of the zeitgeist. Theater K has invited a few guests to perform especially for this performance night. Theater K, Theater Aachen, Toneelacademie Maastricht and the Cultura Nova festival took the joint initiative to produce this first edition of the Aachener Performance Night. It is a unique collaboration and a special event.
Theater Aachen forms the locale for this theatrical performance to create a bridge between normal opening hours and the emptiness of the hours afterwards. As evening fades into night, the audience moves through space and time to arrive at unexpected places in the building where performers, actors and singers take their positions in stories, images, soundscapes and installations. Come to Toneelacademie Maastricht, Theater K and Theater Aachen's theatre performance kitchen and see what's cooking.
The Aachener Performance Night includes: Der Gabber Oper, des/Jägers/Meisters/Lust, Flugversuche, I Will Not, Out of My Mind and In solchen Nächten. Performances will be given by such parties as Theater K, twelve students from Toneelacademie Maastricht, Christian Cadenbach, Anirahtak, Evelyne Verhellen, Nicole Erbe, Roland Mertens, Heribert Leuchter, Joey Zimmerman, Annalisa Derossi, Volker Straebel and musicians from the Aachen Symphony Orchestra.
All performances are visual, musical and presented in the German and English languages.
