Scintillating, spectacular, funny and poignant circus theatre

To celebrate the twentieth edition of this festival, Cultura Nova and Parkstad Limburg Theaters joined forces with the aim of creating something spectacular. They will be presenting the Dutch première performance of L‘Atelier du Peintre, the latest production by French theatrical company Cirque Plume.

There are no lions, horses, elephants or monkeys at Cirque Plume. Neither will you see a main ring, sawdust or sand – instead of that, you’ll find a theatre arrangement with a stage, a curtain and true masterworks featuring a volley of acrobatic stunts, poetry and music that flows consecutively and seamlessly. L’Atelier du Peintre is Cirque Plume’s latest creation: a spectacular show featuring the most amazingly clever ideas, passion and craftsmanship. Spectacular feats are interspersed with poignant poetical expression. Beautiful live music played on stage literally takes up a special position: a feast for the eye and ear, for young and old alike. At the end of the ride you’ll be blinking your eyes in amazement. This is one hour and forty minutes of pure magic!

The art of painting is the thread that runs through L’Atelier du Peintre. The acrobats, jugglers, musicians and clowns transport the visitor to the painter’s studio. Inspired by various artists’ creative processes, creating a work of art is demonstrated from an entirely personal perspective. With L’Atelier du Peintre, Cirque Plume brings an ode to the imagination: the audience is transported from one mood to another, from a hilarious trampoline act to the loveliest of tableau vivants. Circus will never be the same again.

French theatre company Cirque Plume was founded in 1984 by the brothers Bernard and Pierre Kudlak and has since evolved from a street theatre group to a renowned theatre company. Circus, theatre and music are magically assimilated into a whole. As one of the most significant pioneers of Cirque Nouveau – which brought forth such companies as Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Ici – Cirque plume sets itself apart by emphasising ‘honest’ poetical and visual spectacles: theatre originating from the heart. Illusion is the magic word. Every show breathes nostalgia: a longing for the romance of the old-fashioned circus.
