If there is one place that breathes passion for contemporary dance, it would have to be pop podium NIEUWE NOR. This is expressed a multitude of concepts all based on new dance styles, such as drum & bass, electro, techno and dubstep. The latter is currently the hottest popular dance style and has developed broadly, from ‘electronic heavy metal’ to experimental ‘jazz step’.
Jazzsteppa falls under the last segment of dubstep, a collaborative venture between jazz musicians and a sound artist from Germany. The result is a unique live act that combines the best of both worlds, with an innovative sound that blends elements from dubstep, drum & bass, hard-bop and dancehall to the live accompaniment of a sensual and lively brass section.
Jazzsteppa is featured at pop podium NIEUWE NOR as part of the ‘Filtered Forms’ evening, a new dubstep concept initiated by Roel Funcken, one of the two brothers that make up the acclaimed Dutch electronics collective Funckarma from Venray.
