Cultura Nova was established 20 years ago; all the more reason for the French collective Plasticiens Volants to travel to Heerlen to treat both the festival and the residents of Parkstad Limburg to a festive parade. With a special selection from their collection of inflatable puppets made especially for this event, they will enchant everyone on the streets of Heerlen with a parade set to the musical and artistic accompaniment of the show and marching bands Koninklijke Harmonie Heerlen and Schutterij Broederschap St. Sebastianus uit Klimmen. Plasticiens Volants aims to extend a hand to the music clubs, amateur theatre companies and other societies for the performing arts in Heerlen and Parkstad.
Plasticiens Volants is highly acclaimed for their enchanting productions with gigantic, fairy-tale inflatable puppets. Cultura Nova has already hosted this imposing French street theatre collective several times in the festival’s earlier editions. In 1998 an inflatable bird woman delighted passers-by in the centre of Heerlen with the entrancing Ezili, in 1999 they produced Don Quixote, in 2005 La 8ème Merveille and in 2008 L’Etranger, a special collaborative project with graffiti artists Os Gêmeos. It would be unthinkable for Cultura Nova to celebrate its twentieth edition without them!
Bonne anniversaire Cultura Nova! is the result of extensive cooperation between students from the Arcus College, Huis voor de Kunsten Limburg and more than twenty amateur theatre companies from the region.
