Voalá Project / Roberto Strada and Gaston Lungman

Muaré

Trapeze artist/dance/performance

Voalá Project is a group of acrobats from Spain that use the sky as their stage: it is trapeze acrobatics combined with dance and performance. The company enjoyed international success thanks to their spectacular air shows performed to sensual music from rock band Duchamp Pilot.

Voalá Project has come to the Netherlands for the very first time with their newest act Muaré and they are set to open the 21st edition of Cultura Nova. Artistic director Roberta Strada and composer Gaston Iungman were strongly influenced by optical art and the surprising effects that it sets in motion. What we see is an illusion but then again, not. Close your eyes and lose yourself in an unbelievable aerial journey with the actors. Welcome to the Muaré universe!

The actors perform a, sometimes literally, breath-taking kaleidoscope-like choreography inspired by parachute jumps and water ballet. They soar thirty metres above the audience in this technically advanced installation. Strada and Iungman try and capture a sense of time in an imaginary future where art and science go hand in hand and emotional limits are lifted. Is it free art? Is it poetry? Is it magic? When there are no limits, anything is possible.

Artistic director Roberto Strada has a background in visual and installation art and was the artistic director of groups such as Entartete Kunst and Grupo Puja! His exhibitions and installations can be seen at international events and festivals. As a composer-producer, Gaston Iungman has specialised in electronic music and sound experiments since the 1990s. The rock band Duchamp Pilot has also been integrated into the Voalá Project, a live band for which Gaston Iungman writes and composes the music and plays guitar and keyboards.
