Lak aan Braak

A cycling tour along contemporary wall murals

During the Cultura Nova festival, kuS will hold cycling tours past of several wall murals created during the successful exhibition Lak aan Braak (meaning both “to paint on” and “a lack of untouched surfaces”). Last month, artist and curator Jens Besser (DE) invited a group of artists from Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Mexico to use Heerlen's untouched walls as their canvasses.

Parkstad profiles itself as an urban city and therefore offers mural artists a legitimate place to work. Undeveloped grounds, empty houses and shopping malls were transformed into these street artists' unofficial workshops. Even residential associations and private individuals opened their walls to the artists.
