The 3^rd NEIMED Kr!mplezing has chosen to highlight Manchester due to the striking transformation the city has undergone in recent decades and the crucial role the creative industry has played therein. This year, the NEIMED lecture will once again focus on new insights regarding shrinking societies.

In his lecture “From the Darkness of Joy Division to the Boosterism of Urban Regeneration,” Dave Haslam will discuss Manchester’s transformation from the depression years of the 1980s to the vital city it has since become. What role did culture play and what invisible mechanisms and networks contributed?
