Singer/songwriter, actor, musician and rising talent Reinier Demeijer is a new, multi-talented star on the Dutch theatre scene. He created The Bad Advisor, a combination of theatre, music and performance, with actor Teun Luijkx and his three-man band consisting of Dirk Oliestelder (percussion, soundscapes), Johannes Vos (double bass, tuba) and Peter Brinkhorst (guitar).
The Bad Advisor is a musical theatre performance based on observations by 20-somethings living hustle and bustle lives, constantly held hostage by the overpowering medium of television. Their daily lives are influenced by a constant stream of information and images in which depth always loses out to the shallow exterior. Serious life questions simmer into trifling astonishment, which then transforms into cool beats, crazy dance, rap music, a rock song, dialogue, a ballade and a harmonised gospel song.
It is a performance that pleasantly surprises and entertains, but also one that reveals the doubt we have about the times in which we live.
