Vladimir Mishukov

Polnopolunie

Photo exhibition

Polnopolunie is a photo exhibition by well-known Russian photographer Vladimir Mishukov. He photographed the world-famous clown Slava Polunin, who The Times dubbed “the greatest clown in the world.” The collaboration of these two special artistic minds has resulted in an incredible photo series.

Polnopolunie is a conglomeration of several Russian words that, when put together, can be loosely translated as "full half-moon,” a pun on the artist's name "Polunin" and a reference to Slava’s SnowShow.

The photographer first started taking photos of Slava on stage, under the audience's gaze. He was inspired to extend beyond the show and take photos of Slava in the privacy of his own home in a Paris neighbourhood where the great clown has lived since 2002 –  rural images of August, with an enormous red nose and yellow clothing, embracing the elements. Like the photo of Slava, in full stage makeup, gently resting against a tree with his eyes closed, there is much more to this image than meets the eye…
