What do you do when one of your brothers tries to escape the daily hell of the Sunny Side Up trailer park in Texas? That's right, none of that pussyfooting around, you punch him right in the face.
When the Shit Hits the Fan consists largely of carefully choreographed fights – a fight performance in other words, but staged boldly so you can laugh too. What did those guys say? Where have I heard this before? Exactly, they're quotes from Kill Bill, Machete and Snatch!
Empty beer cans, posters of gleaming Harleys and piles of electronics are littered everywhere. This is what a mother and her sons see when they leave their trailer. Everyone's bored out of their minds, the atmosphere is explosive and every conflict sets off a violent chain reaction: bloodhounds, an exploding caravan and even more violence. The fights are performed live and create energy both on the dance floor and in the audience. It's a performance that is sure to energise!
When the Shit Hits the Fan is the third performance by directors Lotte Bos and Annechien de Vocht. Bos and Vocht are fascinated by violence and its allure in mankind. Driven by the whys and wherefores, they search for the limits of satisfaction. The Young Gangsters have a distinct and original theatrical style.
