Five days, 150 metres of fabric full of stories and more than 500 participants. Last June, in the run-up to the opening performance, we at Cultura Nova spent five days collecting stories from residents of Heerlen. At 13 different locations and with various groups ranging from young to old, we addressed the central question: “What does Heerlen mean to you? And what is important to you?” The personal stories and contributions will be incorporated into the design and detailing of the inflatable figures by Plasticiens Volants during the spectacular opening of Cultura Nova on Friday 28 August. At 7.30 pm that evening, four colourful and festive parades will set off from different directions towards the final venue near the Maankwartier.

Born out of the unity of the neighbourhoods and the energy of people coming together, the character YUNI will make an appearance during the opening.
