A performance in the woods on the edge of the estate from Kasteel Wijlre.
In Zones of tones ,Clarinde Wesselink shows that moving through the world is never something you do alone. Every step, every gesture can connect people with one another, both as individuals and as a group. In this way, something can emerge that is greater than the sum of its individual parts. Connection is not a fixed given, but something that is constantly being created anew through attention, rhythm and being close to one another.
During Cultura Nova, the grounds surrounding Wijlre Castle’s country estate play an active role in the work. The woodland where the performance takes place is not merely a backdrop but, as it were, participates in the piece. Clarinde listens to the sounds of her surroundings and allows them to influence her movements. Birdsong, the sound of frogs, perhaps rain or the sound of cars passing in the distance; all these sounds help to shape how the work unfolds. By following the sometimes irregular rhythms, a situation arises in which all actions become interconnected. And so a constant interplay between people and the world emerges.
On Sunday morning, you can experience this performance at sunrise.
