What do you hear when you listen to the people of Heerlen? During Cultura Nova 2026, De Kopsalon voor Hoofdzaken invites you to find out: from a hairdresser’s chair, with headphones on and a personal story in your ears.
De Kopsalon voor Hoofdzaken is a vintage mobile hairdressing salon: an audio installation that pops up in surprising places time and again. The installation is back at Cultura Nova this year as part of EN OPSTAAN, a multi-year audio storytelling project about Heerlen. Heerlen has a complex image: the city is often associated with decline and deprivation. EN OPSTAAN aims to correct that one-sided perception. Not by embellishing reality, but by letting the true nature of the people of Heerlen be heard: full of drive, creativity and a big, warm heart.
