HYPERSENSESExpected end time: 17:15 hour
Grote Zaal (Toneel op toneel)
A theatrical installation for the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, skin and heart.
Following their successful collaboration on the alchemical laboratory BALSAM, which was also staged at Cultura Nova, Zefiro Torna and Laika are once again joining forces for a performance that sets the senses spinning at full speed. HYPERSENSES, a co-production by Cultura Nova, subtly throws the brain off balance and immerses you in an intense trance where nothing is what it seems.
The source of inspiration for HYPERSENSES is ‘The Lady and the Unicorn’ – one of the most fascinating series of tapestries from the 15th century. The artwork is regarded as an allegory of the five senses, yet comprises six tapestries. The final piece in the series alludes to a mysterious sense: the so-called ‘sense of the heart’.
Drawing on this historical depiction, HYPERSENSES explores the sensory experience of the present. In an age of sensory overload and mental noise, this multisensory musical performance invites us to pause for a moment and reflect attentively on what we are experiencing. Can flavours become audible, colours tangible and smells visible? In HYPERSENSES, images, flavours, smells and textures merge with live electro-acoustic music, whilst sonological layers blend with enchanting melodies from the 15th century.
During this new, multifaceted sensory theatre experience, small bites will be offered for you to sample. This is not a full meal
