City-Making Café
The Great ‘Encounter’Expected end time: 17:30 hour
Burg. van Grunsvenplein - Spiegeltent
An afternoon when you simply don’t have to do anything.
How do we tackle the epidemic of loneliness? Let’s be honest for a moment: we haven’t the faintest idea. Not you, not us, not the neighbour, and not those people on talk shows either. Theatre maker Lucas de Man doesn’t know either, but he has been passionately advocating for years for the great ‘un-having to’: creating moments when we fundamentally don’t have to do anything at all for one another. Together with presenter Job Zomerplaag, he opens the doors of the Spiegeltent for a joint exercise for young, old and everyone in between: could that ‘not having to’ help us finally make real contact with one another again?
Lucas and Job set out to find answers in the performances taking place during the Stadmaakweek in various neighbourhoods of Heerlen. They’ll be talking to the creators, the local residents taking part, and even people who’ve made ‘making connections’ their profession. And they’ll be launching an unexpected experiment right there and then, where we’ll get to try out that ‘un-meeting’ for ourselves.
Order a beer, pull up a chair and get ready for an afternoon where you simply don’t have to do anything. Although, of course, we’d love it if you came along.
